The Western Africa influenced music style of Jazz started at the beginning of the 20th century in the Southern US. It is based on the use of blue notes and usually involved improvisation. Jazz music has created a variety of music sub-genres, from New Orleans Dixieland to Cuban and Brazilian jazz and jazz-rock fusion. Wherever Jazz arrived it has grown with and from the strengths of the local music styles and adapted successfully.
